第八届花博会带给西太湖的是一个大自然的盛典，是汇集多元文化和多样种植工艺、绚丽多彩的花的海洋，繁花似锦，绿树成荫、鸟语花香，四处洋溢着奇妙神奇的感官刺激和享受。
来自各国的奇花异草集聚在这由花瓣、枝叶组成的无边的花的海洋，在西太湖景区为来自八方的游客构成了一个幻彩的魅力无限的而又有意义的绚丽世界。展厅内外的所有展示向游人们演绎着纷繁多样的中国园艺艺术，同时也是体现自然世界的丰富景观的缩影。“花”无疑是整个宏伟壮丽的园区内最强烈最吸引眼球的符号。正是这样一个极具诱惑力的“符号”，从那些葱郁的森林、草原、乡村或公园景象中独立出来，强烈的吸引着所有昆虫、鸟兽与人类生灵的感官和注意——这正是花赋予整个世界绚丽色彩并让之重新焕发活力的使命。理解了这样的一种花与环境和世界的关联，我们才能真正懂得当我们在描述“花”的时候，其实说的是一种“关联”，而不是客观的物体。
主场馆的设计可以理解成为一种关系，是各种环境、功能和建筑不同角色之间的关联，相互支持相互依赖。不同构建之间构成的美，不仅依赖于它们自身的物质形态及其细节，而且更多是建立在对它们创造和给予游客 空间感受上。
主展馆坐落在迷人的具有丰富景象的场地，强烈的吸引着前来参观的游人。为把游客和贵宾的注意力引向精心设计的建筑表面和优美的线条，主展馆即扮演着同样的“花”的角色——从整个环境中营造出相互交流、活动的氛围，并向人们传播着丰富的知识、带给人们更多的欢娱和相互之间的心灵上的交流，贯穿于整个园区，甚至影响至整个江苏，整个国家。主展馆同样也创造了一个“可变幻”的“花”。这个设计最大化的汇聚了前来参加展会的游人和嘉宾的注意，并聚集着巨大的能量来庆贺这样的为期一个月的盛典。同时，她也为展会定义了一个综合的核心的目的地，盛情的款待着大量的游客和嘉宾。创造出一个舒适悠闲，纵情欢乐的文化和商业的盛会。
花博会之后，主展馆也易于改换成一个永久的娱乐性旅游中心，为西太湖地区提供世界级的商业休闲服务。主展馆的结构经过严格的专业设计，具有重新分割使用的可能。同样，这样的改建也将延续着主展馆的设计初衷——继续保持着她的优雅的外表和使用的高效性，依然能够保持一个优美迷人的环境景观。

The 8th Chinese Flower Expo brings to the shores of Xitai Lake, a celebration of nature, of the diversity and amazement of cultivation and growth, the colour, smell and sensual touch of fields, ponds, groves and flower beds, all joining together as an environment of participatory splendour and surprise.
The almost infinite tapestry of different plants, with their boundless forms and ever more remarkable flowers, buds, leaves and branches will constitute a magical retreat for visitors to Xitaihu, offering enchantment and education in equal measure. The pavilions and displays will transcribe the rich assortment of the broad Chinese horticultural landscape, offering a condensed insight into the wealth of the natural world located with the national borders.
The “flower” is the most potent and identifiable symbol of this magnificent assemblage. It is the alluring object that sets itself apart from the verdant surface of a forest, meadow, countryside or park, attracting the attention and interaction of insects, birds, animals and humans – all assisting in the task of propagation and reproduction. In understanding this linkage, this connective engagement of flower and environment, we begin to understand that to speak about flowers is to speak about relationships and not about objects.
The Main Exhibition Centre at Xitaihu has been designed as a precise set of relationships, each in support of one another, while also fulfilling specific and necessary roles and functions. The beauty of the ensemble lies not just in terms of its form, materiality and details, but more so in the experiences and spatial effects it produces and gives to visitors. The Main Exhibition Centre will stand out as a captivating destination, set in a landscape of multiple delights, attracting attention, interest and engagement to all who visit the 8th Chinese Flower Expo. In pulling visitors and dignitaries to its intriguing surfaces and graceful lines, the Main Exhibition Centre will perform the role of all flowers – to bring from its environment the activities of interaction and participation, spreading the fertile particles of knowledge, recreation, exchange and communal spirit across the site, across the province and across the nation.The design of the Main Exhibition Centre creates a “transformable” flower. The design recognises and capitalises on the energy and concentrated attendance of the site during the month-long celebration of the 8th Chinese Flower Expo. It defines the complex as a major destination for the duration of the Expo, configured to efficiently and graciously handle the large numbers of short-term visitors and dignitaries. It has been designed to offer a stress-free experience, calibrated to the scale and complexity of this important cultural and commercial event.
After the conclusion of the 8th Chinese Flower Expo, the Main Exhibition Centre will allow for the easy transformation into a permanent entertainment, tourist and hospitality centre, providing the Xitaihu area with a world-class destination for business and leisure. The design holds within its formal structure this ability to be reconfigured, and as such, the transformation will maintain the elegance and efficiency of the original, with the Xitaihu Main Exhibition Centre remaining as a centrepiece of an enchanting and enticing landscape.
